Jessica Tomacic

Jessica recently graduated from Carleton University with a B.Sc. Honours with High Distinction in Earth Science with a concentration in Geophysics. Her thesis on the origin of atoll garnets, where she 3D-printed unique morphologies of garnet, earned her the F.K. North Award for outstanding performance. Jessica’s passion for educating others is apparent through her experiences such as being the co-president of Carleton University's Geology Society where she organized a Geoscience Career Series networking event in collaboration with PDAC in addition to tutoring, being a teaching assistant, and volunteering at scientific outreach events. Her previous roles as an Intern in Mineralogy at the Canadian Museum of Nature as well as a Research Support Scientist in Mineralogy at the Geological Survey of Canada allowed her to further develop her passion of combining science and art to educate others on Earth science through mineral photography and critical mineral research. Working for Mining Matters gives Jessica the unique opportunity to apply her love of science and education along with her creative skills to where it really matters... inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
