At Mining Matters, we are dedicated to equipping teachers with curriculum-linked classroom resources and professional development to effectively teach topics related to mineral resources, exploration, mining, and Earth science. Our hands-on approach and unique activities engage both teachers and students across Canada, from junior to senior levels, fostering an understanding of the importance of rocks, metals, minerals, mining, Canada's geology, and the diverse career opportunities in the minerals industry.

Classroom Resources Kits

Our teaching resources for the classroom, developed by teachers for teachers, meet provincial Earth science and geography curriculum guidelines. Resource kits are available, in English or French, through a prerequisite in-service workshop. [Learn more]

Teachers’ Day at the PDAC Convention

Join us at the world’s largest mineral exploration convention, held annually in early March in Toronto. This is an unparalleled professional learning opportunity for educators, offering insights into modern mining, geoscience applications, technology, sustainability, community engagement and careers. Mine Tours for Teachers

In partnership with the Canadian Ecology Centre, Mining Matters offers teachers hands-on opportunities to explore the minerals industry. Through tours of mining operations, educators gain in-depth knowledge of Earth sciences, mineral resources, and the mining process, including the mine life cycle, sustainability practices, and career opportunities. Field Trip Subsidy Program

Mining Matters offers a Field Trip Subsidy Program to help teachers take their students on unique field trips to stone, sand and gravel, mining and geoscience venues. The subsidy helps cover entry fees and transportation costs to these locations. [Learn more]
