Indigenous Programs
Mining Matters travels to communities across Canada to deliver a range of tailored programs related to Earth science and the mining and minerals sectors. Recognizing the crucial role Indigenous communities play in resource stewardship, management, and development, our camp and school programs are carefully designed to support and highlight this significance. Our programs are designed to raise awareness of the importance of education and the diverse career opportunities available.
The Indigenous Communities Education and Outreach Programs are comprised of:
- Mining Rocks Earth Science Programs in a camp or school setting
- Public outreach during community events, career fairs, and major conferences and festivals
About Outreach in Indigenous Communities
Mining Matters connects to Indigenous communities by attending, participating, and presenting at relevant conferences, community events, and festivals across Canada. Many of our Mining Rocks Earth Science Programs include a community event which includes amethyst jewelry-making and soapstone carving.

“PDAC Mining Matters programs provide students with information on the importance of mining in society, education on local geology and career opportunities in the mining industry. The results of Mining Matters to date are very encouraging…..little kids coming home after school showing little bits of rock to their mum and dad and being able to identify what type of rock it is, in Inuktitut and English, and saying that they want to be a geologist when they grow up. The PDAC Mining Matters helps to create that spark of interest. This is important to Agnico Eagle as the PDAC Mining Matters program helps to sets the stage to ensure a more interested, capable and educated labor force.”
