The Mineral Resources and Mining Education Tours are unique professional development programs that have been offered, in partnership with the Canadian Ecology Centre, since 2010. The tours are fully sponsored and available to formal and informal Educators across Canada and to Mineral Development Advisers. The Tours provide education in Earth science and mineral resources, including hands on learning activities for the classroom; field trips to mine and exploration and mining service and supply facilities; opportunities to engage with industry professionals; and networking opportunities for participants.

The 2017 program includes three tours, each focused on a different theme:

"Life in a Mining Camp Tour" (August 8-11)

This tour will focus on north western Ontario and will showcase North American Palladium's, Lac des Iles Mine. Participants will spend two nights on site and enjoy a comprehensive tour of the operation, including the underground mine and mill and surface elements; field trips to geological sites of interest in the Nipigon and Thunder Bay Regions, including the Amethyst Mine Panorama and Provincial Parks; and site visits to exploration and mine service supply companies. Accommodation will be provided by the Lac des Iles Mine and Lakehead University.

"Mineral Resources and Mining Foundations Tour" (August 13-17)

This tour will focus on providing participants with a foundational understanding of Earth science and mineral resources, through education and training workshops and local field trips; engaging with education and industry professionals; and site visits to mine service supply companies in North Bay. Accommodations will be provided by the Canadian Ecology Centre.

"Mine Life Cycle Tour" (August 20-24)

This tour will focus on all phases of the mining cycle and the Sudbury region. The Tour will include site visits to an operating mine and reclamation areas; a processing plant; exploration and mine service supply companies and "Dynamic Earth", the science centre that features earth science and mining experiences. Accommodation will be provided by the Canadian Ecology Centre and Laurentian University.

The Tours are available for a modest fee ($50). Please visit the Canadian Ecology Centre web site to complete your registration: http://www.canadianecology.ca.
