Hydraulic Excavator Engineering Challenge
Background
Hydraulics is the branch of science that focuses on the use of liquids to transfer power. Hydraulic power is often used for large machines such as excavators, haul trucks, and many more. In mining, hydraulics are one of the safest ways of transferring power as alternatives can often produce sparks which can be very dangerous underground. In this activity you will be building your own excavator that uses water as its hydraulic fluid.
Materials
- Hydraulic Excavator Kit (Kidder Cat# 83-50EXCAV)
- Water

- Hydraulic syringes
- Tubing
- Connectors and assembly hardware
