Pierre Landry is a former Mining Matters intern whose career journey has progressed from educational outreach and curriculum development to mineral-resource evaluation, international mine experience, consulting, and technical leadership. He currently serves as Principal Resource Geologist and Team Lead with SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd.

In his current role, Pierre manages a West Coast-based team of seven geologists within SLR’s Mining Advisory group. The team provides technical services that include mineral-resource estimates, NI 43-101 technical reports, due-diligence reviews, geostatistical simulation, drill-spacing studies, and mineral-tenure valuation.

Pierre’s career has included corporate positions with IAMGOLD and Centerra Gold, as well as operational experience at Rosebel in Suriname, Mupane in Botswana, and Mount Milligan in British Columbia. These experiences provided a foundation for his later work in consulting, resource evaluation, and technical leadership.

Pierre’s approach centres on providing high-quality, candid, and unbiased technical advice. He

believes that his responsibility is to give clients the insights and perspective they need to make

informed decisions, even when the findings may challenge their expectations.

“As an intern with Mining Matters, I helped develop curriculum for educational programs and outreach activities, and supported the preparation of rock and mineral kits used to bring geoscience into classrooms. At the time, I saw it as a way to get my foot in the door in the mining industry, particularly as someone without family connections in the sector. Nearly 20 years later, after building a career in mining and professional geoscience, I have a much deeper appreciation for the importance of educational outreach and for helping the public understand the role that mining and minerals play in everyday life.”

Pierre’s story demonstrates how an early opportunity in mineral literacy and science education can help open a pathway into professional geoscience, international operations, resource estimation, consulting, and leadership.
