Kimberley Taylor is a former Mining Matters intern whose career journey shows how geoscience outreach, communication, and public service can connect in meaningful ways. Kimberley holds a Bachelor of Aquatic Resources and Earth Science and a Master of Earth Sciences (research thesis) from St. Francis Xavier University. Kim was also a visiting M.Sc research student at Dalhousie University. After beginning her career with Mining Matters, she is now a Science Policy Analyst with the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) at Natural Resources Canada.

In her current role, Kimberley supports the Pacific and Northern Divisions of the GSC by helping connect science and policy for the Geoscience and Energy Mapping in the North and Natural Hazards and Climate Change Geoscience programs. Her work includes research and analysis, preparing reports and presentations, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting decisions that help shape future geoscience directions. She also serves as Secretariat for GeoRiskNet, a global network focused on geohazards and risk and is the coordination lead for the GSC’s involvement in foreign scientific research by aircraft and vessels in Canada.

Through Mining Matters, Kimberley gained hands-on experience delivering geoscience education and outreach to youth and Indigenous communities. She shared that this experience strengthened her communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills, while giving her the confidence to lead public engagement initiatives.
